One of the most fascinating aspects of the Sponge Bob Square Pants cartoon is it's staying power. The kids who grew up watching Sponge Bob continue watching him long into their teens! Hillenberg started working on SpongeBob in 1993 when the hit animated series Rocko's Modern life was cancelled.
